Rules
2008 Changes (1) All flights count, they don't have to be WOR exclusive
(2) Prize added for longest flight from WOR site.
Eligibility: Entrants must be current WOR members. No entry fee.
Awards: A pilot can only win one prize.

Flight Entries: A flight value is computed based on flight distance and the specified
handicaps as follows:
FV = FD * EH * WH * TH
FV = Flight Value
FD = Flight Distance
EH = Experience Handicap
WH = Wing Handicap
TH = Task Handicap
A complete flight entry must be submitted within 30 days of the flight.
Flight submissions are only accepted from registered participants.
Pilots may submit as many flight entries as they wish.
Rankings are based on the 5 flights per pilot with the highest point values.
A submitted flight must be exlusive to WOR Contest. If the
flight is entered for scoring in another open distance xc competition, it can
not be entered for WOR competition scoring.
The competition is open to all flights occuring in the competition
calendar year. Since there is a 30-day grace period for submissions,
the scoring will be closed on January 30th.
Task Handicaps (TH):
- 1.0 ODF - Open Distance Flights
Standard open distance XC measured as a STRAIGHT LINE from
starting point to the farthest flight track point.
- 1.25 DGF - Declared Goal Flights
Declared Goal flights must specify a starting point,
a finishing point, and must be declared prior to launch.
You do not have to land at the DG after reaching it. If
you continue on, the flight may revert to an ODF.
- 1.3 ORF - Out and Return Flights
Out and Return flights must be from a starting point to any
turnpoint, and back to the starting point. An ORF is not
necessarily declared beforehand. If you fail to complete the task,
the flight reverts to an ODF to the farthest point reached. If you
declared the flight, start and turnpoint prior to launch, then fail
to complete the task, your reverted ODF measure can include as much
of the return leg as you completed.
- 1.5 TrF - Triangle
Triangle flights can be from any starting point via
three turning points and back to starting point. A TrF is not
necessarily declared beforehand. The 26% rule must apply (i.e. the
shortest leg must be at least 26% of the total distance of all
three legs). If you fail to complete the task, the flight reverts
to an ODF measure of the fully completed legs. If you declared the
flight, start and turnpoints prior to launch, then fail to complete
the task, the reverted ODF measure can also include as much of the
incomplete leg distance as you completed.
Failed Task Attempt Rules:
- If you declare an ORF or TrF task with declared start and turnpoints prior
to launch, then you can count your miles along the task line
as far as you flew. The flight must then be recorded with an
ODF handicap.
For those tasks where turnpoints can be declared after the task is
started (ORF and TrF):
- Failed ORFs will score open distance to the turn point.
- Failed TrFs will score only completed legs. For the two legs
to score the final incomplete triangle must comply with the
26% rule.
- The final distance is scored with an ODF handicap.
Experience Handicap (EH):
- 1.0 Normal: For all flights after a total of 10 XC flights have been
performed in your flying career.
- 1.5 Beginner: This multiplier can be applied to any flight up to,
and including, your 10-th XC flight in your entire flying career.
Wing Handicaps (WH):
- 1.0 Class-2 (Swift, Millenium, etc.)
- 1.1 Class-5 (GB, ATOS, Stalker, Phantom, etc.)
- 1.4 Topless Flex (Laminar, Litespeed, Combat)
- 1.6 Advanced King Posts (Litesport, U2, Predator, Discuss, Sensor)
- 2.0 Intermediate King Posts (Eagle, Pulse, Sportster, Ultrasport, Formula, etc)
- 2.5 Single surface (Falcon, Ventura, etc.)
- 1.8 PG Comp
- 2.1 PG DHV 2, 2-3(Advanced)
- 3.0 PG DHV 1-2(Beginner, Intermediate, Serial)
Other Rules:
- Single Entry: Each flight can only be used for a single contest entry.
For example, if you complete a DGF, then continue on, the flight
cannot count for both a DGF and ODF.

WOR Exclusive: A submitted flight must be exlusive to WOR XC Contest. If the
flight is entered for scoring in another competition, it can
not be entered for WOR XC points.
- Aerotow: Flights beginning with an aerotow launch begin at the release
location. The release height must be less than 3,000ft above
the originating aerotow launch strip.
- Honor System: As always, points and compliance are based on an honor system.
Declared tasks must be communicated to a witness before launch.
Please be as accurate as possible when evaluating a task.
- Photos are not required for verification of startpoints, turnpoints
and finish points for out and returns and triangles, but pilots
are encouraged to take them or use a GPS if possible.
- Turnpoints are deemed to have been achieved when a photo (real or
imaginary) is taken from the 90 degree quadrant on the far side of
the turnpoint from where you are approaching, or when your GPS tells
you that you are there!
- If you get caught cheating, you must return any award, will be
publicly flogged and humiliated in your next attended WOR meeting,
and will be the designated XC chase driver at the next WOR fly-in.
- I reserve the right to audit the prize winners, so please keep your XC
GPS tracklog and flight log.
